Both the regular and challenge list cover the same phonetic spelling skill. If your child scores 80% or higher then he/she will be given the challenge list. Students will also be introduced to new vocabulary words with each passage.įor spelling, students will either be on the regular list or challenge list depending on the pretest given on the first day of each week. There will be a grammar skill introduced with the passage as well as a new spelling skill. For example, a skill might be sequencing events and the strategy would be to infer/predict to help comprehend the events. There will be a reading skill introduced and a reading strategy to help students master the skill. This will be our second year implementing the language arts program called “Into Reading.” We typically spend one (sometimes two weeks) on a reading passage depending on the difficulty of the concepts related to the reading passage.
